Maybe, my dear reader, you are used to luxury and staying in 5-star hotels.

But if you’re like most of us mere mortals, an experience like that is something out of the table right? Have you ever caught yourself looking at those amazing pictures of fantastic hotels and just wondered how you’d like to have at least one night like this?

Well, then you’re reading the right post!

Because I will tell you how we, backpackers in our day-to-day, spoiled ourselves with a stay in the most fantastic hotel you could think of! And it was just amazing!

If you know us already, you know that we are always looking to make our travels very economical, but everyone deserves more comfort once in a while! And I’m telling you, if you want to have this experience ever in your life, Southeast Asia is the ideal place. You will be able to find luxury lodgings with prices, still expensive, but more affordable than in other regions. So, we chose Indonesia, more specifically Bali, to have our first experience in a luxury hotel (as we did not have a honeymoon, we thought we deserved this gift this time).

Check it out here how our experience in the Tugu Hotel Bali was!

Well, maybe I can convince you to spend at least a little bit of your period in Indonesia in this amazing place.

The Tugu Hotel chain is much more than a hotel, it is a museum. The name “Tugu” itself means “monument” in Indonesian.

And they have hundreds of pieces of art and antiques. The chain is small and private and its founder and also the owner of the largest collection of fine art in Indonesia has created the hotels precisely to display its pieces.

That way, in addition to staying with great comfort, you still have the complete Indonesian experience, with items of antiquity exhibited in all places (including in the furniture of the rooms) traditional dance shows, and restaurants with delicious and beautiful typical dishes.

The units of the Tugu Hotel are in Bali, Lombok, Malang, and Blitar.

We stayed at the Tugu Bali!

The hotel is very well located, close to the beach of Canggu, a true paradise for surfers. The beach itself I didn’t like so much because I prefer calmer beaches without many waves, but it’s amazing to walk through the white sand and enjoy the view.

The region is wonderful! Full of life and young people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and Hostels. Many places with vegetarian food and many yoga academies – after all Bali breathes this Zen energy in every corner! It’s a delight to walk the streets nearby and feel this vibe.

Accommodations

Dedari Suite at Tugu HotelBali

I’ll not keep you waiting! I’ll already start talking about the part I liked most about the Tugu Hotel Bali, the accommodation!

I had never lived anything so complete, comfortable and with so much attention on the part of everyone. Our room inclusive was all decorated with flowers and we also won a complimentary fruit basket! We could see the affection in every detail!

There are a few suite options at Tugu Hotel Bali. For all I’ve seen, they’re all fantastic, but we chose the Dedari suite. This suite does not have a sea view, but has a private swimming pool inside the room!!! Yes, a pool just for me! I couldn’t resist, and it had to be the selected room!

The suite is almost an apartment. You go inside through a gate in a small garden with a tank full of little fishes.

The room is huge! A king size bed, super comfortable and with mosquito net! The furniture is amazing, all solid wood of an unparalleled beauty. I don’t even know how to describe the bathroom, it’s so beautiful! It has room for a private spa, bathtub, shower with hot and cold water and the amenities are great… Shampoo, conditioner, soap, body cream, repellent, post-sting mosquito lotion, aftersun lotion! All that you might need!

The best part was, of course, the pool! It was cold at night but I enjoyed the pool in the room even so at the end of the afternoon and at night! A delight to have that space just for you with all the comfort of being in your own room!

Only by the photos is it possible to see how amazing the Dedari suite is.

  • Rejang Suite: This suite is on the first floor of a Javanese house with sea views and rice fields. It also features a private spa area!
  • Kampong Suite: Also on the first floor, this two bedroom suite is surrounded by tropical gardens and beautiful views.
  • Walter Spies Pavillion: This luxurious suite is surrounded by tropical gardens, features a private pool, an outdoor bath and private space for open-air dining.

Meals at Tugu Hotel Bali

The restaurant of the Tugu Hotel Bali

If there was something we enjoyed a lot at Tugu Hotel it was the gastronomy of the place.

In addition to 3 fantastic restaurants within the hotel, offering Balinese, Javanese, Chinese and Japanese food, the hotel still offers complete gastronomic experiences. You can take a cooking class, have an aphrodisiac picnic served in your bed, have a special dinner with Balinese dances and more.

If that’s not enough, breakfast is wonderful. Forget scheduled time or eat what will be offered at the buffet. You can choose anything you fancy to eat, at any time you want and wherever your heart desires. Whether at the poolside, in your bedroom, in bed, in the garden or anywhere else you can imagine. We had a very early flight to pick up and we left the hotel at 5:00. We ordered breakfast at 4:30 and it was served in our room! Just sensational to be able to leave like this without having to starve right!?

Oh, but you think it’s over? No, no, no. Every day there is also a complimentary High Tea: the Sunset High Tea. What a delight! We returned to the hotel every day on time for the high tea because it was simply unmissable. Delicious teas with snacks and fine pastries served at will!

Hotel Infrastructure

Swimming pool at Tugu Hotel Bali

As you have already noticed, apart of luxury and comfort, the Tugu Hotel is also covered by gardens and close contact with nature.

Besides everything I’ve already mentioned, already enough to convince myself to go to this wonderful place, the pool area is just fantastic. The pool is huge with approximately 17m in length. It was wonderful to spend some time swimming in a big pool. And there is a fantastic tropical garden around. So beautiful.

In addition to almost all rooms offering a private spa, there is also the hotel’s spa. Nice and cozy. We had a welcome complimentary massage! I have to admit that after hours on a plane, leaving from Wakatobi to Bali, it was wonderful to have this super massage! Oh, where’s wakatobi and what were we doing there? It is an archipelago little visited in Indonesia and a truly lost paradise. Make sure to check it out about Wakatobi and include this wonderful island in your itinerary.

The hotel also offers various activities of Bali tours, immersive activities and yoga!

How to get to Tugu Hotel Bali

If you are coming from the airport, there is no mystery because there is no direct bus to Canggu region, so the best way is to get there by taxi.

But the Tugu Hotel offers transfer and we chose to get the hotel transfer and it was excellent.

First of all, because we didn’t have to worry about anything. We arrived in Bali and our driver was already waiting for us. We came in an air-conditioned car and we were even greeted with a fresh wipe to clean our hands, fruit, and water! Besides all of that, the price of the transfer was cheaper than a normal taxi (about USD 30.00 round trip).

Of course, we also got the transfer to return to the airport because we had to leave the hotel at 5:00 since our flight was very early.

What to do in the Canggu Region

Waking up at the Tugu Hotel

As we already have mentioned in our post about how to plan the itinerary to a trip to Indonesia, we decided not to explore Bali on this trip, as we would like to focus on less touristic points. In addition, we never have had the opportunity to stay in a 5-star hotel before, so we decided to enjoy the hotel to the fullest. We woke up later, we enjoyed the swimming pools, breakfast, and high tea, plus the spa.

But we also decided to rent a scooter (the Tugu itself provides and also some establishments nearby) and do some sightseeing in those two days that we were there. Bali is the island of a thousand temples and there is a lot to do there, a lot!

Bali in two days

In our two days, we made the following activities, but there is a lot to be seen in Bali, so we will soon come back for sure!

  • Walking on the beach of Canggu: As I mentioned before, Canggu is not my beach style because it is a surf beach, but for those who like it, it is amazing. We just went to the beach to walk on the sand and enjoy the view!
  • Batu Bolong Temple: This temple is very close to the hotel and it is possible to walk along the beach. It wasn’t very tidy and beautiful when we went.
  • Masceti Temple: It is also possible to reach there on foot, but it is a bit further away. Going down the beach, the view will be beautiful for sure. It is interesting and worth the visit. But what I liked most was the garden at the entrance of the temple, super well cared for and beautiful!
  • Tanah Lot Temple: This temple needs to be included in your list of things to visit in Bali. It is about 10km from Canggu but in a scooter, we arrived there very easily. It sits on a rock on the beach and the sights are breathtaking! But expect a lot of tourists there!

In a scooter, we only had to put the names of the places we wanted to visit in the application maps.me or Google Maps (we had already downloaded the maps offline before the trip) and was super easy to reach. I was the navigator indicating the way while Wagner was driving! But do remember that Indonesia has a  kind of chaotic transit, so take care whilst driving and wear helmet;)

If you prefer not to drive, we recommend Get your Guide to book a private or group tours! They have many options for itineraries around Bali and affordable prices.

Our experience

Hotel Tugu Bali

Although this kind of experience is not in our everyday life, we were very happy to be able to experience something like this.

We will probably not have an experience like that again so soon and in the next day, we were already super happy to return to a hostel in Yogyakarta, hike to Mount Kelimutu, sleep 4 nights on the deck of a boat traveling the Komodo Islands and spend 3 nights camping in the Volcano Mount Rinjani! This trip around Indonesia really had a bit of everything and we were able to enjoy all the experiences!

I really recommend that you take this chance if you are visiting Bali or another location with units of the Tugu Hotel. If you think you also deserve this gift (even for one or two nights) make your reservation at TUGU HOTEL BALI and live this unique moment! I guarantee you will not regret it!
